Idris–Faces of My World

Idris

Idris (on the right) became a good friend during my time serving in Hebron in 2011. He lives in the heart of one of the most conflicted areas of Hebron and while he is persistently harassed by Israeli settlers, he remains a man of peace and frequently advocates for peace. He consistently nurtured good relationships with the Israeli soldiers and I often found him lobbying for understanding among the conflicted parties in the community. He had me in his house often for tea, spoke of his own scares that he received from the conflict, but how he wanted to live at peace with his Israeli neighbors and know freedom for the Palestinian people. Before I left the area, he wanted a photo with me and called me his “blood brother!” I was extremely humbled and said I would tell his story as much as I could in churches back home. I look forward to interview Idris for our documentary on Peacemakers in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

  1. I have appreciated hearing Idris’ story. He has suffered much, yet has retained a generous spirit. His resilience and continued quest for peace is incredibly inspiring. Glad you’ll have the chance to see your dear friend again. I look forward to hearing his updates and more stories from your upcoming documentary, Andy and John!

  2. Let us know when your documentary is done. And let’s distribute it in SA too! Jan told me that you’re there at the moment Andy – all the best with the project.
