Truth serum” is a colloquial name for any of a range of psychoactive drugs used in an effort to obtain information from subjects who are unable or unwilling to provide it otherwise. Although a variety of such substances have been tested, serious issues have been raised about their use scientifically, ethically, and legally. There is currently no drug proven to cause consistent or predictable enhancement of truth-telling. Subjects questioned under the influence of such substances have been found to be suggestible and their memories subject to reconstruction and fabrication (wikipedia).”

We’ve definitely hit an all-time low point for the capacity for truth in our national body politic. It’s a head-scratcher for me, especially among those I walk with who claim to follow Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14:6). I honestly feel the degree to which one is incapable, or perhaps more to the point, unwilling, to embrace the truth is the degree to which they’ve fallen off of the “straight and narrow” which Jesus also talks about.

To those who are in despair of our condition I say, “hang on.”

To those who are denying the truth, I say, “repent for the Kingdom of God is near.”

To those who want to remain neutral and fall back on their own version of “whatabout so-n-so” I say, “this IS critically important. Doing, or saying nothing is complicity in the crime of falsehood.”

No, I’m not pushing or demanding you just fall in line. But it’s time to choose which line you want to be in and who you want to follow. Let me remind you there are consequences to our decisions. Both now and in the hereafter.

“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
