Nature leads the Celebration–with Pompoms in Hand

2007-05-01
By: Andrew
On: May 1, 2007

Flower, originally uploaded by papalars. One of the responses to this photo on my blog said this looks like a party, like the flowers are celebrating something. I found the comments fitting as well as suggestive. Nature once again comes to our aid in leading the song through life, theContinue Reading

Worldly Holiness–Down & In, Not Up & Out

2007-03-26
By: Andrew
On: March 26, 2007

One Cross over Barcelona, originally uploaded by papalars. For more than thirty years, I have felt, on and off again, that there was something more to the Christian journey than my current experience was telling me. During my college years in particular, I sometimes became incredibly disillusioned with my ownContinue Reading

On: March 14, 2007

Here is another one of my new friends. His name is Miguel and he is from Argentina. I first met Miguel in October of 2005 when I came to Barcelona for a conference on our focus friends. The topic of that conference was addressing the many aspects of Maghrebi assimilationContinue Reading

Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”

By: Andrew
On: February 23, 2007

Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds", originally uploaded by papalars. Just thought I'd post a fun picture I caught down at Plaça Cataluña day before yesterday for a change of pace. This would go to the lighter side of my blog. Let me tell you the story of how I caught thisContinue Reading

Ronda “Nuevo” Bridge [built in 1793]

2007-02-21
By: Andrew
On: February 21, 2007

Ronda "Nuevo" Bridge [built in 1793], originally uploaded by papalars. Carol was laughing hard as she watched me edge up to the fence to get several pictures of the Nuevo Ronda Bridge. I really do have acrophobia and after about 10 minutes of trying to get the perfect shot IContinue Reading

What Others Are Saying

Ted Burrows

A Local Church Pastor
“Through personal storytelling, biblical preaching, and literally getting us out of the church and into a mosque, Andy walked alongside our church with the question, “Compelled by God’s love, what does it mean to love our Muslim neighbor?” Wise, gentle, and prophetic, Andy doesn’t just talk about peacemaking–he lives it.”Website

Linda Howell

Lay Church Leader
“Andy spent a weekend at our church recently speaking about his bridge building relationships with Muslims. This approach resonates in contrast with so much media attention to extremists. It was a new message for a lot of our members, but they seemed willing to listen and be open because of Andy’s gentle and non-threatening presence. Now we can discuss this topic more freely and see our Muslim neighbors in a new light, building friendships as God leads.”

Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil

Professor of Reconciliation Studies
“We recognize you as an agent of change for reconciliation and an influential community leader. We’d like to invite you to influence the next generation of community leaders here at Seattle Pacific University.”

Brad Bergfalk

Pastor
“Andy Larsen recently gave a presentation and engaged our congregation around the question, “Who is our neighbor?” His knowledge and experience as a bridge-builder and peacemaker was evident as he encouraged us to look outside our normal circles of friendships. Andy is well-suited for this ministry as he travels effortlessly between Muslim and Christian communities and invites us to do the same.”

Thanks for stopping by. I'm in constant search for beauty, and try to capture it with my camera. I also look for ways to restore shalom between cultures and peoples that may not see the image of God in their other. I seek to follow Jesus and his invitation to make peace. I love photography, coffee, hiking, time with friends, and a good book. Poke around here. Enjoy the pictures, reflections and stories.
